MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women's Art)

 The artist-run centre was founded in 1984, to 'encourage and support the intellectual and creative development of women in the visual arts by providing an ongoing forum for education and critical dialogue”. MAWA now recognizes the broader spectrum of gender discrimination, and welcomes cis women, trans women and non-binary participants into all programs.  

Current Show: .Fire: Artist Mothers at MAWA Exhibition. This annual exhibition has been unable to take place in person since 2019, but Phoenix-like, it has returned! All welcome. Please wear a mask while at MAWA.

Noon – 1pm. First Friday Lecture Mindimooyenh: Indigenous Women Warrior-Artists by Suzanne McLoed
In person at MAWA (masks are required) or online with Zoom
McLeod will speak about First Nations women warrior-artists who told—and tell—the stories of Indigenous experience and resilience.

Opening 6-8pm: Loose Ends: Foundation Mentorship Program Graduate Exhibition
Unfinished business. Lost memories. Scraps. Leftovers. How do loose ends speak in our practices? The 2020-2021 MAWA mentees grapple with the ephemerality and materiality of their personal and collective archives.
Exhibition continues: Wednesday - Friday, 10am - 4pm, June 3 - 24
